L’Examen Trinitaire (The Threefold Examination) * Meaning as the Highest Point of a Hierarchy (Part 2)

“Why do bad things happen to good people then?”
“How can a loving God let innocent children suffer?”
When discussing the problem of evil in the world, the nature of God is often presented as an unbearable paradox. From this lens, God is Good but at the same time, allows darkness to proliferate. He is omnipotent but alas, incapacitated in the face of pure cruelty. This results in a terrifying dilemma: is there a God that truly exists or has he in fact never existed and we may all be subject to the potential overturning of civilisation in favour of uncontained savagery? The different religious traditions of the world all have moral guidelines to abide by in order to maintain virtue on Earth and ensure divine protection and love. But this inevitably brings up a separate dilemma. Is God only benevolent towards those who are born in and have faith in the religious beliefs of their culture? Or does God in fact care about the well-being of all of us?
In June 2025, we channelled a 5 steps’ framework for aligning human will with divine consciousness. The framework was a form of mental recalibration that would lead to the following: Clearing of the perceptual field (Steps 1 to 3), Sanctifying the space where judgement takes place (Step 4) and Re-establishing the Self as a righteous interpreter (Step 5). By following this framework, one becomes able to suspend bias and projection, to reflect upon one’s own thinking (becoming a meta-thinker) and thereby redirecting oneself towards the highest possible version of Truth at all times. The five steps proposed in Part 1 were therefore no isolated techniques. Together, they help prepare the mind to move through three distinct levels of internal discernment, each one representing a deeper mode of contact with what IS or the invisible architecture that sustains our capacity for ‘being’.
The three levels are respectively:
(i) Perceptual Clarity or purification of the thinking process.
(ii) Ontological Alignment or organisation of the self around meaningfulness.
(iii) Embodied Integration or the ability to present oneself in ways that reflect the meaningfulness one has come into alignment with.
Part 1 of the threefold examination prepared the mind for holding the Truth. But mental sovereignty (enhanced cognition, decision making, rational analysis) alone is not the answer to a functional world. The mind is instrumentally brilliant but without a meaning-based framework, it can devolve into unethical standards. As such, the mind will detect what is required in a given context, but without the symbolic structure to translate that perception back into something that is integrated and coherent for the self, cognition will remain unanchored. The mind then simply becomes an ever-expanding mass of interpretative capacity that now lacks orientation and is lost in the void. That is where ontological alignment steps in.
Let us go back to the example of why the act of a soldier killing the enemy becomes permissible during a war but this same act becomes morally abhorrent within the civilised society the same soldier comes back to. The immediate idea would be to associate our soldier’s mental framework to thinking under severe duress but what we often fail to acknowledge in these systems of horrors is that the good soldier does not commit atrocities because of his mental state or his influence under groupthink. He does so because he finds himself projected into an environment where all symbolic meaning has completely collapsed. The mind after all doesn’t detect evil. What it does detect is a dilemma to resolve, a problem to fix, a body to eliminate and a resource to be optimised. Mental strength alone will not end violent behaviour. But Meaning will.
When we act from a mental framework alone, our mind can only provide the rationale, as well as the language needed to justify that rationale. Dehumanisation paradoxically does not occur as a result of the existence of evil. Dehumanisation occurs in the absence of a structure for meaning making. It is the result of the mind having re-processed the data presented to it following either the absence of meaning or a corrupted expression of meaning. And once that mental schema has been set into place, Man no more believes or even feels that whatever action he is about to do is morally wrong. He either believes it is necessary for survival for him to go ahead and do it (emergence of cannibalism in situations of extreme hunger) or that he is now entitled to perform the act for the highest good of his culture and society (re-education of the colonised by the coloniser). Meaning as such sits at the highest point of a Hierarchy because it is meaning that teaches the mind why we do the things we do.
Where would God then sit in the symbolic structures that shape our world and thereby prevent the mind from committing atrocities?
The answer lies beyond what is currently comprehensible about the world Humanity is in. God, in symbolic imagery, does not sit amidst a hierarchy directed through meaning. God is the Axis that allows this Hierarchy to exist at all.
