Our concept of the third energy does not rest on the principle of the emergence of a third asset with transformative powers that is born out of relationship. The term “third” is not crude in the sense of having three distinct configurations within oneself: the Self that is, the Self that chooses and the right configuration that drives the Self forward.

This is what distinguishes an Office of the Hierarchy from a personal capacity. Knowledge, discernment, force, experience, or spiritual attainment belong to the person who possesses them. An Office concerns the relation within which such capacities acquire hierarchical significance. The distinction is subtle but decisive.
