INHLIZIYO EPHELELE *

Poem no. 17: 24th December 2024 (Christmas special)

pink flowers

We once sang over grains of sand,

A promise whispered to the Above,

That peace alone would guide our hands,

In the here and now—

Where eternity began its quiet bloom,

And you, my love, you vowed to me:

We would feel it all again, one day,

Inhliziyo, Inhliziyo Ephelele.

Now I sing beneath the water’s depths,

Where a peaceful slumber cradles my mind,

And angels heal the yarn of time,

In the here and now—

Where the Grandmaster of my soul lies.

Oh, I remember, I remember, my love,

How it felt, that sacred day,

Inhliziyo, Inhliziyo Ephelele.

And we will sing beneath the stars at last,

When our lost fingers intertwine again.

We’ll laugh, we’ll vow, and we’ll pledge anew,

In the here and now—

To begin our story where it all began.

For true love sowed the seeds of light,

And so shall it always be remembered:

Inhliziyo, Inhliziyo Ephelele.

*Loosely translated from Zulu as "My heart is whole"
